20130502 Extreme Picnicking - Mauna Kea 13,769ft

May 06, 2013

Sometimes I drive up to Mauna Kea to disappear from the world, but I also find it as an endearing place to share, bond, and experience a feeling of entirety in the world.

From the left, you can see the city lights from Hilo, Keaau, the ocean entry on the East Rift Zone, Halemaumau Crater, Mauna Loa Observatory's green air sampling LIDAR laser, the glow from Kailua, three friends packed into my cozy car, and about 14 cars descending off of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on Saddle Road. Facing directly south, the Southern Cross is in the direct center.
